    WESTLAND 2ND AVENUE

The project is a multi-unit housing development along 2nd Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos. It is a 20 unit (approx 8000 sqm) ‘high-end’ residential development consisting of 3 bedroom units over a recreational ground floor and 4 floors of living accommodation.

Our program and materiality concept borrowed from the Japanese tradition of wabi, the handmade artisan techniques of African sculpture and stories from the Yoruba Ogun God myths. These themes drew out the materiality and forms, along with the re-occurring theme of water as a cleanser which became focal nodes for the building’s language. In addition, we worked extensively in collaboration with renowned Nigerian sculpture Olu Amoda on the building fenestration, developing screens, using his own technique of hand crafted steel rebars.
