TERRA KULTURE

‘The Bamboo Experiments’ From 2006-2010, the office worked on a series of projects titled “The Bamboo Experiments’ which investigated the possibilities of bamboo as a new aesthetic with African modernist architecture. These images are extracts from our competition entry to design the new ‘Terra Kulture’ building in Victoria Island, Lagos. Terra Kulture has become the symbol of a new way of way of preserving and promoting the best of Nigerian culture, language, art and food. The existing building was originally design by MOE Limited. This new proposal in collaboration with Studio Seventi, London took inspiration from the traditional ‘gele’ head tie and the notion of ‘reversed’ cultural appropriation. In this instance the form, clearly references the Guggenheim in New York.
