What is our story?

The world has always been led by those who tell their stories and insist on their history, to inspire their people, to see a new light, to go on….
Great cultures exist for one reason alone, the telling and sharing of stories. The documentation and expression of the past, though the arts.
‘A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.’ – Marcus Garvey ( revolutionary)

We came from the sea…..to be
“The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” -Michaelangelo (thinker/artist)

What can art do?
Record memories and keep them alive
Art is a time traveller. Art is an omnipresent teller of stories. It’s more effective than CNN, the BBC and Sky News put together

‘Art bridges the gap between the spiritual world and the physical one. At time’s of great need – trauma, loss, celebration, reunion, hope, introduction, – we need the bridge. We need art. It’s why there is song. It is why there is poetry. It is why there is dance. It is why there is music. What can art do? Art can saves lives.’ – Lemn Sissay, (poet)

The idea
A wood and membrane framed tunnel, of our history, our bridge to our past, the reassurance of our future. The life boat.

Light. Air. Regal. Strong. Craftsman. River. Red. Boat. Timeless

These are the words that have formed the principles of our idea. The crafting of a canoe, the red velvet of a robe, the curve of wooden hull, the line of history and ideas. These are celebrated in form and movement.
This is a capsule for time seen through the mirror of art.
A mirror for the Itsekeri people.
