The family house, spread over 1150 sqm has a simple concept at the heart of it, ‘openness’; split over 3 levels (ground, first and second) with a central double height space as the internal focus, whilst all the spaces are intersected by external garden views, both literal and abstract in the form of the ‘leaf’ pattern laser cut screens which are digital representation of the trees and foliage that existed where the new house sits.
The house uses a strong sense of materials and artisanship juxtaposed to classical modernist lines and form. Though the house desires openness it finds privacy through the use of foliage, timber screen and later cut steel screen, enclosing a pool space at the front of the house, family space and a large terrace on the second floor. The project site duration was 18 months.
